Min Max Geek
Min
Noun: the least or smallest amount or quantity possible, attainable, or required.
Max
Noun: the greatest or highest amount possible or attained.
Geek
Noun (colloquial): One who passionately engages in one or more things to extreme levels. A commonly ascribed term to people in the field of computer programming, but one does not have to be in a technical field to be a geek. The only criteria is an intense level of interest in something, often to a highly specialized degree.
Min-Maxing is a strategy common in video games with role-playing mechanics. It refers to the idea of carefully crafting your character obtain the largest benefits in a specialized field (max) to the detriment of everything else (min). It’s a geeky way of saying ‘get the best bang for your buck’.
So why Min Max Geek?
Well the geek part is pretty easy — ‘one who passionately engages in one or more things to extreme levels’. Yup that’s me: every hobby is an insatiably deep rabbit hole of things to learn, things to thinker (and for better or worse, things to buy!).
As a gamer, I love to min-max my characters and break game mechanics (once a QA tester, always a QA tester!). For my hobbies, I find that as I explore deeper into each rabbit hole (read: more expensive toys), min-maxing becomes a necessity to extract that last bit of value before the next big price jump.
What’s this site about?
Min Max Geek is a blog that covers four broad areas: PC tech, DIY woodworking, photography and cooking with an emphasis on how they can synergize with each other. Within each of these domains, I always found that my specific interests were a bit off the beaten path.
I made this site as a digital outlet to explore and share some of the less popular topics or synergies. My hope is to inspire others looking into similar interests and to provide more content with these synergies in mind. I hope that you can get inspired by some of my build logs or guides and not only tackle a project you didn’t think you could, but expand on it and make it your own.
I live in Ontario, Canada and while this doesn’t affect my objectivity about anything, sometimes it will affect my access to products or services and certainly the costs involved.
Thanks for checking out my site and I hope you find something inspiring, useful or entertaining.

Cauliflower chower is a nice soup that takes heat/spice well, is super easy to make, doesn’t require any fancy ingredients and can largely be made in advance.
And as much as I like a clam-chowder, I really enjoy that this is something different.
